1 Day Workshop (advanced)

Duration: 2 x 3 1/2 hours, max 6 participants, the use of a bicycle is mandatory for this workshop.

General information: You MUST have a bicycle or an e-bike that is in good working condition. If your bike is not in at least reasonable working condition or if you do not have a bike or an electric bicycle available at all, you can book a rental bike or e-bike from Swisstourer for the day of the workshop.

Why is this workshop a good investment?

You will learn a lot about your equipment and gain confidence. You'll know how to invest money in your travel projects effectively. You will limit problems and increase efficiency. You will learn how to make the best use of your resources and save money throughout your journey.

1. Help choosing the right equipment (before you leave home*)

​

  • Select quality equipment specifically designed for touring or bike packing (it may offer better value for your money).

  • Learn about all the essential equipment you need to take on your trip and how to use it effectively.

 

2. Bike and equipment how-to:

​

  • Reassemble your bike after it has been packed for transport.

  • Adjust and personalize the setup of your bike to maximize efficiency and comfort (avoiding sore bums, wrists, neck, and knees).

  • Learn how to repair a puncture, change a tire, adjust the brakes, and perform maintenance.

 

3. First Aid:

​

  • Secure the accident location.

  • Understand how to treat common cycling injuries.

  • Know emergency contact numbers and first aid apps.

 

4. Riding a touring bike:

​

  • Discover how to ENJOY riding a loaded bike off-road or in dense traffic.

  • Learn techniques for climbing (it's a lot easier than you think) and descending with a loaded bike.

  • Understand how to ride safely in a large city and grasp the local road rules.

5. Navigation

 

  • Top-notch navigation apps

  • Decode and make sense of cyclist indicators (in Europe, Switzerland)

  • Master map-reading while you're out cycling

 

6. What are the potential risks and how to deal with them:

​

(Note: Hazards can happen abroad as much as at home. It's essential to be aware of such risks and know how to prevent them. Being prepared is crucial if something unexpected occurs.)

​

  • Receive information about common risks such as scams, corruption, theft, accidents, etc.

  • Learn how to prevent and avoid hazards.

  • Understand how to behave in tricky situations and what not to do.

  • Know emergency phone numbers (hospital, embassy, etc.).

  • Learn what to do and who to call in case of theft of a wallet, credit card, or passport.

 

7. Ride along:

​

Participate in a 10 - 20 km group ride to simulate a true cycle touring day (the distance may vary based on fitness level and conditions).
